Oceans in Motion

06.03.2022 - 18.11.2022

Plastic Oceans Australasia (POA) is an environmental non-for-profit organisation that works throughout the Australasia region. Its mission is to ‘change the world’s attitude to plastic within a generation’. POA develops proactive sustainable outcomes with global partners to hasten systemic change towards the use of plastic.

The Oceans in Motion (OiM) Film Competition aims to inspire communities within the Australasia region to reduce their plastic footprint and raise awareness about its impact on our ocean. This year, Oceans in Motion coincides with the United Nations Environment Programme Assembly’s proposal to work on a broad and legally binding treaty, aiming to re-calibrate the whole of life use of plastic.

The Oceans in Motion Film Competition is open until 18 November 2022 (film entry deadline) to all educational entities across Australia and New Zealand including primary, secondary and tertiary education. The Competition invites students to showcase a project that has been implemented, or one which they want to apply in their school to reduce and/or eliminate single use plastics. It has a wonderful prize pool of in-kind craft awards and is aligned with POA’s successful ‘Picnics Unwrapped’ September campaign.

In addition, POA is inviting the sports and lifestyle sectors, namely the boating industry, to make their mark by highlighting their own achievements in the reduction of single use plastic on their vessels. POA sees the advocacy and support of major organisations in the boating industry as critical to influence the reduction of plastic pollution in the ocean.
