On Jun, 8, 2020, Ocean Day, the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communication - MCTIC of Brazil launched the Brazilian Ocean Decade Portal, in order to realize a series of 6 webinars, 2 national and 6 subnational, to divulgate the results of the South Altnatic regional Planning Workshop, held in Rio de Janeiro on November, 2019, to collect the priorities on this scope for each of the five Subnational Regions of the country: North, Northeast, Souteast, South, and Central-West.
The Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC) launched this Monday (Jun 8) the website of Decade of Ocean Science in Brazil. The digital address is part of the ministry's activities within the scope ofScience at Sea Program, launched in November 2019, with the objective of promoting the management of knowledge for the sustainable use and exploitation of sea resources.The initiative is in close convergence with the objectives of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). The global initiative planning is under the responsibility of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), in which the MCTIC has the national scientific representation. By 2021 MCTIC will organize the National Committee for the Decade with members of different sectors of society and, led by the Secretariat of Policies for Training and Strategic Actions (Sefae) of the Ministry. Together, we will formulate a National Plan for the Decade.For the secretary of Sefae / MCTIC, Dr. Marcelo Morales, the Ocean Decade is an invitation for the whole society take science as a compass for the sustainable use of marine resources. “In the navigation route through the Decade, MCTIC has a leading role assuming the helm of the National S&T System to mobilize its competencies for the generation of new knowledge dedicated to the formulation of initiatives and policies based on scientific evidence ”, he highlighted.
