Ocean Literacy in the TAC Region

Ocean Literacy in the TAC Region

Ocean Literacy in the TAC Region 750 405 Ocean Decade

Lead institution:

UNAM – Mexico

During the TAC Regional Webinars, capacity building was identified as a cross-cutting subject that should be promoted in all levels.

However, the unequal distribution of information across generations and genders was identified as a relevant barrier to achieve an inspiring and engaging ocean by 2030.

During the TAC Regional Webinar on capacity development, it was identified that unequal access to knowledge is a challenge to the sustainable development of the ocean and that it is crucial to adopt an efficient method to engage with, or approach and exchange knowledge with local communities and traditional knowledge holders.

During the Kick-Off Conference, it was identified that there is a lack of visibility to local efforts, that understanding ocean literacy is a gap for decision-makers. The project thus intends to address the regional need to promote ocean literacy as a tool to transform ocean knowledge into actions that lead to ocean sustainability.

Start Date: 01/04/2020
