High Level Ocean Decade Alliance Meeting

As part of the UN Ocean Conference happening in Lisbon, Portugal, this high-level meeting will promote interaction among Patrons and members of the Ocean Decade Alliance and potential new members. It will include a presentation of the aspirations and plans of the Decade Alliance, and allow space for announcements from individual Alliance members or groups of members on new commitments or initiatives. An official Ocean Decade publication will be launched, focused on the links between the Decade and the 2030 Agenda, also targeting SDG 14.

Taking place on Monday 27 June 2022 (15.00 – 16.15 WEST) in the Blue Zone of the UN Ocean Conference, in the Committee Room, the High-Level Ocean Decade Alliance Meeting will be the first in-person meeting of Alliance Patrons and members.

This event will provide a platform for commitments and announcements by Alliance members. It will launch a joint Call to Action for investment in ocean science by members of the Alliance, and a publication on the links between the Ocean Decade and the 2030 Agenda that is being supported by Portugal. It will provide a platform for presentation of the aspirations and plans of the Ocean Decade Alliance and allow space for announcements from Alliance members on new commitments or initiatives. Finally, it will provide a forum for networking and discussion between high-level Alliance members.

The event will be co-hosted by the Presidents of Portugal and Kenya – both of whom are founding Patrons of the Alliance – and the Director-General of UNESCO.
