The People We Need for the Ocean We Want

Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO

UN Agency

Paris/FRA

The webinar will launch the Report 2021 on Empowering Women for the Ocean Decade, featured with a roundtable discussion on challenges and opportunities for gender equality in ocean science, and advocating gender mainstreaming in the Ocean Decade.

The webinar is organized by the DFO-WMU Empowering Women for the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development program. The program will enhance capacity to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in the conduct of ocean science and in science-dependent governance systems in the Ocean Decade. The webinar is an output window of the program that aims at raising awareness of the need for gender mainstreaming and the empowerment of female scientists across all actions under the Ocean Decade. The webinar directly addresses gender equality issues in the context of both the generation and use of ocean science knowledge in ocean governance. It also discusses ways to scale up the implementation of women’s empowerment for the Ocean Decade.
