As part of the collaboration between several institutions in the Mediterranean, the Interreg Mediterranean Biodiversity Protection Community (MBPC) and the BlueMed Coordination and Support Action (Research and innovation for blue jobs and growth in the Mediterranean Area) initiatives, in collaboration with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) and the MSPglobal Initiative, are organizing a training course on ecosystem based management and Maritime Spatial Planning in the Mediterranean. The course consists of a 2.5-hour introductory webinar held on the 17 September 2020 for selected applicants, followed by a 2021 three-day webinar on 22, 24 and 26 March 2021, to be followed by a face-to-face workshop at CNR-ISMAR headquarters in Venice (Italy). This action was reformulated as such due to the current sanitary situation.
The main topics addressed include an introduction of the interface of science, policy and practice in marine systems, the marine interface in the EU focusing on the Mediterranean, and science-industry partnerships and planning for impact.
This training opportunity is co-designed and supported by the Marine Institute (Croatia), the National Research Council - Institute of Marine Sciences (CNR-ISMAR, Italy), the European Topic Centre of the University of Malaga (ETC-UMA, Spain), and the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe (CPMR, France), with communication support from MedCities (Spain) and Latte Creative (Italy) and counted with additional contributions from the COST Action-Sea Unicorn project on Marine Connectivity for Improved Resource Management for the Seas.
