This virtual session “Co-designing the science we need for the Ocean Decade” is convened by UNESCO's IOC in partnership with The Research Council of Norway and with the support of the Swedish Ministry of the Environment, as part of the Ocean Decade Virtual Series.
It will explore opportunities and challenges and discuss best practices to deliver co-designed, solution-oriented research that will lead to transformative Decade Actions with long-lasting benefits to the ocean and society.
Following the first global event on this topic, this virtual session will dive into Polar regions' contextual factors (drivers and perceptions) along with their needs and priorities at regional level in terms of transforming knowledge systems, developing capacity and enhancing training and education.
The session will be organised in two parts:
-Part 1 - The Arctic Ocean
-Part 2 - The Antarctic Ocean
This session will address the following questions: What are the main challenges and opportunities for collaborative research at regional level? What are the capacity-development, training, education and resource needs at regional level?
